Dr. Saeed Dastgiri
Dr Saeed Dastgiri obtained his PhD degree in the area of epidemiology and community genetics. He is mainly involved in activities in the field of public health genetics including epidemiology, control and prevention of congenital anomalies, genetic risks, and genetic knowledge and education with some international awards and numerous publications in medical journals. He is founder/leader of the Tabriz Registry of Congenital Anomalies (TRoCA) in Iran. This is the first programme for the surveillance of birth defects in the country. The registry is now a member of the International Clearinghouse for Birth Defects Surveillance and Research (ICBDSR), a world affiliate member of the European network of registries for the epidemiologic surveillance of congenital anomalies (EUROCAT), and a memebr of the Society for Birth Defects Research and Prevention (BDRS). The TRoCA was awarded, in 2020, the Down syndrome research prize & medal for achievements in the field of birth defects in the Eastern Mediterranean Region of the World Health Organizasion (WHO). Dr Dastgiri is a member of the WHO advisory group on adolescent health metrics.
